Welcome to Mini Blahs - Digital Distribution For The Little Guys!

Imagine, you have been working night and day to finish your work. You are proud and delighted with the finished product. You mention it on your website, and others are proud of knowing that you have finished it... but now what? How about selling it?

But where? Amazon allows you to sell your items, but you have to pay them at least 50% of your product's selling price to use their services. PayPal only handle payment processing, which means you have to find your own methods of sending your digital files to your customer. So forget Amazon with their ridiculously high percentage costs, and Paypal with their limited functionality (causing you more hassle than profits), and welcome to Mini Blahs - the best digital media distribution solution.

If you are an author or producer of digital media, you might find it useful to click on How It Works for all the information relevant to you and selling your work.

Mini Blahs Mentioned On "I Should be Writing"

11 August 2007

The 'I Should Be Writing' Logo

As some of you might know, The Mighty Mur from I Should be Writing mentioned us in her latest podcast. If you haven't heard of 'I Should be Writing', it is a podcast produced for wannabe fiction writers, by a wannabe fiction writer - Mur Lafferty.

Firstly, a huge "thank you" goes out to the Mighty Mur for mentioning our humble site. Secondly, if you are a wannabe fiction writer, then check out I Should be Writing and get subscribed to her show. And finally, you may notice that even though Mur said we were launched... we aren't! We are having issues (as seen below). However, please feel free to visit our 'Sign Up' page, and enter your details to be kept informed of our latest developments. This also means that you will be able to reserve your favourite web name before anyone else does!

Mini Blahs: Static - Asking For Help

08 August 2007

Right guys, we would like your help. It will only take a few minutes, but when done, it'll look wicked! We would like everyone who has a webcam or digital camera to record themselves reading the sentences and words below. Obviously we would like to try and get as many people doing the same thing... so please spread the word!

Here are the rules:

  • We would like to get everyone to record themselves in a dark room (probably best at night), with only your computer or laptop screen as the light.
  • Please use a program like Windows Movie Maker or iMovie – both of which have the 'capture video' option to capture directly from your webcam. In both, there should be the option of recording a 'High Quality' (Small) video (a resolution of 320 x 240).
  • Please make sure you look directly at the camera instead of reading off of the screen, and make sure to pause between each sentence before reading the next. This will also help us to edit the words and sentences together. Also try and make it sound sinister, perhaps even evil!
  • Finally, export the video as either a WMV or AVI file, and then email it to: miniblahs@gmail.com. You may have to zip the file first!

Obviously we will give credit to everyone who participates - so if you want an acting credit on your resume, then get involved!

Please record yourself saying these sentences:

  • "Can you feel it?"
  • "Change is coming."
  • "Nothing is going to be the same again."

...and then record yourself saying these words:

  • "Music"
  • "Video"
  • "Literature"
  • "Podcasting"

Thanks, everyone!

Issues!

31 July 2007

OK, so we've been having some difficulties as of late, and so as you can see, the site's countdown timer is currently on pause. But don't worry, we haven't stopped working! It just means that we won't be able to meet the deadline we had originally planned to hit.

We've gone into a lot more detail over at our MySpace page, so take a mosey on down and have a read of the blog. There are a few issues at work really, but for now, we're still working hard to get the site up and running. All we can say is: it'll be worth it!

As always, if you've got any questions, just give us a shout. You know where to find us.

Little Help...?

24 July 2007

Evening all! I hope you're all having a fun night. I know I am! Just a quick update to say that we've added a new page with some banners on that you can add to your own website to help promote us! And because we're nice like that, we've even given you the code you can just copy and paste in.

Now, we here at Mini Blahs know what a nice bunch of people you are, and how you'll see the benefits of helping to promote our site, as it will eventually lead to more people buying your digital creaions. And so we ask you, come forth from the woodwork, dust off you website/MySpace/Facebook page, and splash it with colour... the colour of Mini Blahs!

You know it makes sense!

PS. You can get the banners here.

We Are On MySpace!

22 July 2007

That's right everyone, we have a MySpace page. To check it out, head on over to our page and leave us some comments or shout outs.

We can also add you as a friend. If we were silly enough to miss you on our rummage throught the MySpace pages, give us a shout, or add us as a friend. See you there!

Oooh it's coming...

18 July 2007

As I type this, I can't believe that there is only 12 days left to complete and launch 'my baby' that is Mini Blahs.com. To be honest, it is long overdue, as the original concept was envisioned back in March 2007, but due to a lack of funds (and I was just getting over some slightly major back issues), I honestly didn't think I would finally see it all come together.

For those who are new to the project, Mini Blahs.com is going to be a digital file distribution system for artists (authors, podcasters, musicians/bands, and video producers) who wish to earn money from their craft without prostituting themselves to one of the big corporations. Instead, the artist keeps total control of their product and is still able to reap the benefits from their hard work.

To ensure the success of the project, I was able to gain funding from the Princes Trust in the UK who, among other things, supports young people (16 - 30 year olds) to start up small businesses. Even though we have set up as a business, we do not run or act like one! We are all random and bohemian people. Well, when I say 'we' I actually mean the three of us - Dominic the professional web geek, Kym (who is also commonly known as 'Mummy') who has the important job of being in charge of coffee supplies, and myself who comes up with these scary and generally random schemes/ideas. So even through we may look funny, we are friendly and are always willing to answer any questions you may have about the project.

So that is the rough story of who and what Mini Blahs is, and over the next few days I will take time out to keep you posted about what is going on behind the pixels.

To ensure you keep up to date with what's going on, please feel free to become our friend (as we are lonely people), and I will post bulletins when new stuff is added.

Take care for now,

Leigh Brown, founder, creator, and drinker of coffee!
